The Northbank Lighthouse

My painting the North Bank Lighthouse is from a series of photographs from an open submission request for Dublin Port. The North Bank Lighthouse is situated in the middle of the mouth of the river Liffey, inside the sea-walled area- a rectangular green lighthouse on a platform on stilts. My process on this project was to work from photographs I had taken, working the imagery I had gathered through drawings and proceeding to paint on canvas. I investigate and observe lines of direction, negative and positive forms trying to capture an essence and aura between the two. Using pure pigment to create my own paints with the mixing of oils and chalk. I aim to achieve depth and distance and a dream-like quality. Photographs are proof that something did exist.
